Now in my mid thirtys this filmation adaptation the the classic film is just as great! i think the animation is visually stunning and still better then any of todays disney, pixar, or hanna barara could muster! REALLY! the col ors are so sharp.nothing limited animation about it!It angers me that this film is so under appreciated! i mean voice talents alone! liza even tops her mother in singing "keep a happy thought and that feeling for home" Paul lynds unique warbly voice is perfect for the rubbery flamoyant pumpkinhead Mickey rooney isnt ray bulger but i think he puts in his compassion and friendship to his judy garland in this role. Ive always found the Mombi's deceptive "beautiful rose" guise a suprising plot twist for an animated film and i couldnt have found more interst and enjoyment out of pumpkinhead! I have loved this animated sequel to the 1939 Wizard of Oz sinse then.When i was 4 yrs old the bright bold beautiful candy colors of Oz was in direct contrast to Dorothys brown and sandy colored Kansas! something i found captivating. This was a fairly common staple around spring time on the chicago,WGN show movie classics on sundays in the afternoon.around 5 0r six pm in the very early 80s.
